The First Principle: Respect the Transfer

DTF prints, heat-adhered patches, inks, fibers—these are agreements between materials. Bonds formed under heat, pressure, and intention. To preserve them is to understand a simple truth: Aggression breaks bonds. Gentle repetition sustains them.

Core Preservation Ritual…

WASH COLD

Turn garments inside out. Cold water only. Always. Heat is the great dissolver of intention. Cold preserves structure, color, and memory.

If you remember nothing else, remember this.

HANG DRY

Avoid the machine dryer whenever possible.

Air is patient.
Air does not rush transformation.

Let your pieces breathe, stretch, and settle naturally. This alone will double the life of most artifacts.

TURN INSIDE OUT

Before washing, always invert the garment. The outside world is abrasive. Let the inner side take the friction.

AVOID HARSH CHEMICALS

No bleach. No aggressive detergents. If it smells like a laboratory, it probably doesn’t belong on something sacred.

LOW HEAT IF YOU MUST

If drying is unavoidable, use the lowest possible setting. But know this: every tumble is a small forgetting.

The Orders of the NikkiArcane World

SIGNALS (Shirts)

Messengers. Story carriers.

Treat the print as you would a voice—
don’t mute it with heat, don’t distort it with friction.

BIG HUGS (Jackets)

Protectors. Outer shells of inner worlds.

Wash sparingly. Spot clean when possible. These pieces age with dignity—let them.

WANDERERS (Shoes)

Travelers. Ground-touchers.

Clean by hand when possible. Avoid full submersion unless absolutely necessary.
Let them dry slowly, like stories unfolding.

VESSELS (Bags)

Carriers of everything that matters (and a few things that don’t).

Empty them fully before cleaning—
you’d be surprised what they’re holding onto.

Spot clean. Air dry. Respect their burden.

HATS

Guardians of the threshold between mind and sky.

A hat is not just an accessory.
It is civilization made wearable.

It shields, signals, crowns, and completes.

Do not crush it.
Do not over-wash it.
Do not treat it like an afterthought.

Clean gently. Shape intentionally.
Let it keep its form—because it helps you keep yours.

BANDANAS & SMALL RELICS

Flexible. Adaptable. Quietly powerful.

Wash cold. Hang dry. These pieces move the most—so they require the most awareness.

On Repair & Continuation

If a transfer lifts, a patch loosens, or a seam opens—

This is not failure. This is an invitation.

Repress it. Stitch it. Reinforce it. Add to it.

Every repair is a collaboration across time—between the maker, the wearer, and the next unknown hands.

(This path will evolve as more artifacts are documented and more wisdom is recovered.)

Finally

From a certain view, nothing is permanent. From another, nothing is ever lost.

So we care for these pieces not because they will last forever—but because they won’t.

And in that truth, care becomes meaning.

Send It Forward

When your time with a piece is complete:

Pass it on. Gift it. Trade it. Release it.

Let it find its next wandering nomad. Because the artifact was never yours. You were simply part of its story.

Keep them fresh. Keep them moving. Keep them alive.

Care of Artifacts, Relics & Wandering Objects from NikkiArcane

The Living Nature of Things

Every piece you’ve welcomed into your orbit—whether a Signal, a Big Hug, a Vessel, or a humble bandana—was not made to sit still.

It was rescued, rerouted, reawakened.

These objects are not owned.
They are carried.

They move from one set of hands to another—through time, through stories, through lives. You are not the end of their journey. You are a collaborator in it.

Care, then, is not maintenance.
It is devotion.
