What Dharma?
No Drama, A Lantern to Light the Way
What is Nikki Dharma?
Nobody needs someone else’s “philosophy”.
The world already has plenty of that.
This certainly isn't intended to be yet another.
If anything, these are simply observations that have remained useful over time.
Companions.
Some appeared while wandering.
Some arrived through abject failure.
Some came from music, old books, mountains, front porches, fishing piers, conversations with strangers, dogs, friends, and quiet mornings with good coffee. Like dusty shoulders from the road, you keep what sticks, brush off what doesn’t.
Some probably came from finally paying attention after I should have been paying attention all along.
Nikki Dharma is not advice. Pffft….
Only observation.
Take what resonates.
Leave the rest exactly where you found it.
I've noticed that reality rarely behaves as I expect it to.
It almost always exceeds my expectations once I stop insisting that it become something I think that I’d prefer. Take life as it comes.
I've noticed that certainty is ephemeral.
Wonder at that which naturally evolves tends to last much longer.
I've noticed that grace is difficult to define but remarkably easy to recognize.
The more willing I become to offer grace to myself, the more consistently it seems to appear in the world around me.
I've noticed that paradox isn't a flaw or an anomaly in the fabric of reality.
It's often the moment reality reminds us that our understanding was always incomplete.
I've noticed that meaningful things almost never arrive on schedule.
They arrive on their own time.
I've noticed that rescued objects often have more to teach than brand-new ones.
The same seems to be true of people and other beings.
Most of all, I've noticed that life becomes lighter when I stop trying to solve its mysteries.
The practice isn't to eliminate mystery.
It's to become graceful within it.
Everything is unfinished. Everything is a continuation.
Every observation remains subject to revision after the next good conversation, the next unexpected coincidence, the next mountain, the next song, or the next quiet moment that changes the way we see things. Revelations abound. Sidhi.
That feels like it is as it should be.
Reality has never asked me to have the last word.
Believe me, even if you did have control you wouldn’t want it.
Just keep paying attention, keep wondering. Keep wandering. Adapt. Become agile.
If any of these observations become a useful companion along your own path, I'm grateful.
If not...
thank you for wandering with me a little while.
Thank you for your kindness and indulgence.
There are no accidents.
May all beings benefit.
